Welcome to the Elevate Your 8 Podcast!
Join your host, Kris McPeak, every Wednesday for a new episode on time management and productivity! Elevate Your 8 is a 15 minute show featuring interviews and solo shows.
There are 24 usable hours in every day, according to Liv Tyler, in EMPIRE RECORDS.
If I had a quarter for every person I ever heard say, “there just aren’t enough hours in the day,” I’d be a rich girl. The truth is, we all have the same amount of time every day – 24 hours – but some of us don’t use it properly.
If we are doing our work-life balance due diligence and working 8 hours and sleeping 8 hours, then the remaining 8 hours is what we need to manage and prioritize to dominate our day. This weekly 15 minute podcast aims to do just that.
Join your host, Kris McPeak, and hear from real life people who have tips and tricks on how they Elevate their 8. Our guests share amazing stories!
Thanks to Bon Jovi for making my argument in this episode so hard – it’s easy for him to say “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” when he’s still so gorgeous after all these years.
Elevating Your 8 means that you are already tending to your sleep – and that’s what this episode is all about. Hear tips on how to improve your sleep on a nightly basis…and learn why sleep is so important.

I had a super fun conversation with a former staff member of mine from my Residence Life job. Jeff is a Career Advisor at CSU-Chico and has published some amazing articles on LinkedIn. You can connect with Jeffrey at https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeffreybharrington/ and I highly encourage you to do so – he is a wealth of information and one of the most authentic and engaging young professionals out there.
Jeffrey is a proud husband, father, and public speaking enthusiast who loves meeting strangers. For the last eight years, he has worked at California State University, Chico as a Resident Director, Admissions Counselor, and currently serves as a Career Advisor, helping students learn to love Monday’s as much as they do Friday’s. He started his professional career as an excited middle school teacher and routinely uses his stellar group facilitation skills (and 6’6” size privilege) to inspire people to sporadically dance at work, sing in public, and be the best version of themselves. You can catch Jeffrey living out his life mantra by closing most conversations with, “Don’t be a stranger, but keep being strange”.
This podcast was brought to you by “Elevate Your 8,” the book. You can pick that up HERE.
Have you ever been so engrossed in something that you just completely lost track of time?
Or – you stare at that phone and scroll…and scroll…and scroll….
Then before you know it you’re late for your dentist’s appointment.
In today’s episode, Kris talks about figuring out those funky aspects of time. In other words, how we over or under estimate how long it takes us to do stuff. Hence, falling over ourselves saying, “there’s not enough hours in the day!” Which is bullshit. We have have the same 24 usable hours.
But some of us just aren’t using them to their fullest potential.
Today’s show is brought to us by SilverPeak Performance – a US Masters Swim and Triathlon with a National Championship backstroker and 7 top ten finishes in 2018. To check out a practice, shoot us an email at email@example.com.

Many thanks to The Creative Collective Facebook group for connecting me with Planning Guru Kathryn Hofer! This was a wonderful conversation about living and planning intentionally .
Kathryn Hofer is passionate about helping others live an intentional life. Kathryn has over a decade of experience executing live events, organizing teams and projects, and running a non-profit. The focus of her attention is educating others about the value of planning.
Recently referred to as the ‘champion of boundaries and guilt-free intentional living’ she is passionate about helping overwhelmed and overworked women slow down, create space for what matters and make progress towards the most important things. One plan at a time.
When she’s not planning or singing, you can find her curled up with a good book, a cup of tea and dark chocolate. Kathryn lives in Kitchener, Canada with her husband, and 1.5-year-old daughter. They love traveling and eating delicious food.

It’s my first bonus episode! While I do have some great content for the actual season of the show, I wanted to add this as we break into the Beginning of the Holiday Season.
Notice how I put that capital letters, as if it were a title.
It may as well be. The Holiday Season is an entity all on its own. And you need some mad skills to navigate it thoroughly.
So today I’m giving you five tips/mindset shifts to help you get through this first big holiday weekend with sanity, love, and perspective.
And check out the BOGO Planner System from “It’s All You Boo.” It’s called the Slay Your Goals Planner and you’ll be your second planner free when you buy Planner #1 between November 20-30, 2018. This is the planner system I used entirely through 2018 to help me finish my book, launch this podcast, and start a career coaching business. It’s a super duper Black Friday purchase, and you don’t even need to leave the house!
We are here today with Episode #8! Today we’re talking about five ways to maximize your lunch hour!
I used to scarf down a salad or fast food and get right back to my desk and get back to work – until I totally realized that I was cheating myself out of some good regeneration time.
These days, I utilize many of these five things and I hope that you will find them useful!

BONUS Episode – Giving Tuesday Bonus Episode – Talking Philanthropy, Productivity and “Die Hard” with Doug Ferguson
While I’ve enjoyed all my podcast interviews thus far, I had a complete and total blast today talking with my good friend Doug Ferguson, the Director of Alumni Programs at Delaware County Community College outside of Philly. Doug and I had been on a conference committee together and have been buds ever since. We both appreciate “Empire Records” as being one of the most quotable movies ever AND believe strongly that “DIE HARD” is definitely a Christmas movie.
So on today’s show, we talk about a ton of fun stuff, including:
1. Giving Tuesday – which is Tuesday, November 27th. A day of philanthropy and giving that adds new dimension to Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
2. Being Married with Children and working on your doctorate
3. How exactly do people “fall in” to working in Higher Education
Doug will most definitely be back because we can talk about so much stuff. There WILL be a holiday movie bonus episode in the next couple weeks!
Meanwhile, if you haven’t already selected an organization for your Giving Tuesday contributions, I’d love for you to check out the SilverPeak Performance Year End Campaign Page. We are trying to raise enough money to sponsor 4 athletes in 2019. That would include a year of membership dues, swim meet registrations, and equipment. We’d love your support!
As always, the music on the show is from BenSound. They have an incredible library of royalty free music.
